Our Scandinavian collection is one of the greatest assembled anywhere, and is principally Swedish, with Finnish and Danish work alongside it. It divides between flatweave and pile, with rya carpets in their own long-piled tradition, and runs from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present. This is the weaving of Marta Maas-Fjetterstrom and the workshops around her, where a carpet was designed as a work of art rather than a furnishing. Her studio signed every piece: MMF woven into the lower left corner during her lifetime, AB MMF after her death in 1941, with a collaborating artist's initials in the lower right.
