Our antique Chinese carpets run from the 1870s onward and take in the wider region as well as China itself: Khotan carpets from the old Silk Road oases of East Turkestan, and a small number of Tibetan pieces. The Khotan weavings are the particular strength here, carrying the vase and pomegranate designs of the oasis towns, and they sit at a crossing point of traditions — field patterns drawn from Persian and Central Asian sources, borders and palette owing more to China.
