Swedish Flat Weave

Double-sided

One face presents an open, pale grey-green field divided by thin vertical striations, framed by a checkerboard border alternating mustard, slate blue and ivory squares. The reverse reverses the palette, setting the same striped ground in warm ochre against an identical checked border, so the two sides read as inverted companions of one another. Both borders terminate in a narrow ivory band patterned with small stepped motifs before meeting the outer edge.

The field is composed of a grid of flatly rendered rectangular blocks in muted rose, slate blue, ochre, sage green, taupe, and ivory, each panel showing fine horizontal striations that give a subtly woven, patchwork-like texture. A narrow plain brown band frames the entire composition, with no additional border ornament or medallion, leaving the checkerboard arrangement itself as the sole design. No inscriptions or signatures are visible.

The field is divided into three vertical panels separated by narrow solid bands, each panel filled with a grid of small checkerboard squares interspersed with larger blocks of flat color. The palette moves through deep indigo, slate blue, and steel gray, punctuated by warm brown and tan squares, with a pale cream-and-brown checkered band crossing the central panel. A plain outer border in dark brown and blue-black frames the composition, and small woven initials appear in the lower corners.

A largely open, undyed-toned ground is divided by a faint grid of thin lines into rows of rectangular compartments, with four horizontal bands of small colored squares in red, black, green, gold, and pale blue crossing the field at regular intervals. These bands, framed by narrow ivory and blue stripes, are echoed at both the top and bottom edges, giving the composition a repeating, ladder-like rhythm across an otherwise plain surface.

A gridded field on a slate-gray ground carries rows of small rectangular blocks in soft pink, celery green, powder blue, and tan, each framed with an inner outline suggesting a stitched or notched border. Dark charcoal bars cross at regular intervals to form the grid, giving the whole surface a checkerboard rhythm. A narrow plain gray band runs around the perimeter, finished with a flat fringe of undyed and gray threads at both ends; small initials appear woven into the lower left corner of the field.

An open ivory field, left plain except for subtle horizontal striations, is enclosed by a slate-blue border set with a single row of nested squares in mustard, dusty rose, and sage green, each centered on a small ivory ground with a tiny colored square at its core. A narrow checkered band of alternating blue and ivory blocks separates the field from this square motif border, and fringe is visible at both ends. A small red woven mark appears in the lower left corner of the border.

The field is a nested series of golden-toned rectangular frames stepping inward toward a shaded amber center, with small pale-blue diamond accents scattered along the innermost band. A wide ivory border surrounds this, patterned with repeating stylized tree or feather forms in brown and ochre alternating with small clustered diamond motifs, all enclosed by a solid tan outer band. Flat-woven fringe finishes the top and bottom edges.

A long runner composed of horizontal bands broken into irregular rectangular blocks of varying widths, arranged in a repeating brick-like pattern down the length of the field. The palette moves through soft ivory, pale straw, warm gold, ochre, and muted taupe-gray, with some blocks showing a flecked, textured surface against smoother neighboring sections. Both ends finish in loose knotted fringe, and the layout has no border, letting the patchwork of color blocks run directly to the edges.

A narrow runner divided into vertical bands filled with rows of opposed triangles alternating in taupe-brown and ivory, each band anchored by small diamond medallions in magenta, mustard yellow, teal, and sage green. A slim golden-yellow guard stripe frames the composition, closing at each end with a narrow patterned border of small stepped diamonds before the loose warp fringe. The overall field remains dense and repetitive, with no open ground left undecorated.
