SARDINIAN CARPET

Cotton

The field is left entirely open, given over to a fine, even stripe of pale sky blue and ivory that repeats in narrow bands across the whole surface. A row of small looped tabs runs along one edge, forming a plain finished border rather than a decorated one. A detail inset at lower right shows the tight, basket-like interlacing of the two tones at close range.

The surface presents a tight, even textured stripe of alternating ivory and slate-grey rows, the pattern reading almost as a fine houndstooth up close. Selvedges along one edge show a looped, scalloped finish in the same ivory tone, while the opposite edge is left plain and straight. The detail inset reveals the small-scale weave structure, with each band composed of tightly packed horizontal ridges.

The field is left entirely open, given over to a small-scale geometric interlock of ivory and warm brown that reads as a running diagonal check across the surface. A finished selvage runs along one edge, punctuated by a neat row of looped tabs, while the opposite edge shows a plain cut finish. A close-up inset highlights the tight, even grid of the weave structure and the crisp alternation of the two tones.

The surface is patterned in a tight, even grid of ivory and dark charcoal, the two tones interlocking in a small stepped motif that repeats steadily across the field. Along one edge a row of small looped tabs breaks the otherwise flat plane, while the remaining edges are finished flush and straight. A close-up inset at lower right isolates the same zigzag rhythm, showing how the dark and pale threads cross to form the pattern's diagonal steps.
