The field is left entirely open, a single expanse of pale, warm gray with a subtle vertical striation running its length. A detail inset at lower right reveals the surface's true structure: a fine basketweave of small rectangular blocks alternating in tone between soft taupe and off-white, arranged in tidy vertical columns. No border, medallion, or inscription interrupts the plain expanse; the interest lies entirely in this close, textured grid.
