Khotan

An open ivory field is filled with tall, slender stylized trees rendered in coral red and rust, their branches ending in small hooked forms and blossoms, arranged in loose vertical rows across the ground. At the center sits a single octagonal medallion in deep red and indigo blue with a small rosette, the only enclosed device in an otherwise unbroken field. The wide border combines a meandering vine on a straw-colored ground with a narrower band of small palmettes and a slim geometric guard stripe in blue and rust.

An overall pomegranate-and-vine lattice in muted gold covers the pale, almost bleached ground, the pattern repeating in vertical columns with only slight drift in scale. The border stack combines a cloudband meander, a diagonal reciprocal stripe, and an outer band of small rosettes, all rendered in the same soft gold against dark, near-black outlining. Wear has softened the contrast throughout, giving the field a uniformly muted, tonal appearance.

The field is organized in narrow horizontal bands that alternate between a paler ivory tone and a deeper taupe-grey, with no other ornament or border to interrupt the sequence. Close inspection reveals a fine herringbone texture running throughout, giving the striping a soft, slightly broken edge rather than a hard line. The detail inset shows the individual threads crossing in a tight chevron pattern, mottled with flecks of cream and brown.

The field is composed entirely of fine, closely set horizontal ridges that read as a continuous striped rug, alternating bands of pale ivory and deeper taupe-gray creating a subtle, all-over rhythm rather than a distinct border. No central medallion or corner ornament interrupts the surface; the pattern is achieved purely through tonal shifts in the banding. The detail view shows a slightly irregular, textured ground with visible ridged rows running on the diagonal, giving the surface a tactile, corded quality.

The surface is composed entirely of fine horizontal striations, alternating narrow bands of pale ivory and mottled grey-brown across the whole field, with no border or corner ornament to interrupt them. A close-up inset reveals the striped ground broken by a diagonal ribbing, where individual strands twist and cross to catch the light differently along each ridge. The palette stays within a narrow range of oatmeal, taupe and bone, shifting only in density from row to row.

The field is left entirely open, a plain expanse of pale grey-beige rendered in a fine, close ribbed texture that runs uniformly across the surface. A detail inset reveals the structure up close: a tight basket-like grid of interlacing threads in soft neutral tones, alternating cream and taupe. No border, medallion, or figural motif interrupts the surface; the interest lies wholly in the texture of the weave itself.

The field is rendered in an unrelieved ivory tone, its pattern visible only through the play of light across the surface rather than through contrasting color. A lattice of small diamonds, each filled with a stepped or cruciform device, repeats steadily across the ground, bordered by a narrow guard of tighter geometric notching along the selvages. Loose, undyed fringe finishes both ends, left long and untrimmed, and the detail inset confirms the same restrained diamond-and-hook motif at closer range.

The field is left open, a plain expanse of undyed ivory ground bordered by a wide band of tonal floral vinework. Rounded blossoms and curling leaves repeat continuously around the border in a slightly raised texture, set against the same pale tone as the field so the pattern reads through subtle relief rather than color contrast. The detail inset shows the close, ridged surface structure that gives the flowers their dimensional appearance.

An ivory ground left entirely open, uninterrupted by any secondary motif, framed by a single continuous border of a navy Greek-key meander. The key pattern turns cleanly at each corner, maintaining an even rhythm of interlocking right angles around the full perimeter. The contrast is limited strictly to these two tones, ivory and deep navy, with no additional colors introduced.
