KUVA

Concentric square panels nest within a broad ivory ground, each frame edged in tan and topped or bottomed with a band of zigzagging chevron lines in rust, slate blue, pale blue, and charcoal. The innermost square repeats the chevron motif on both its upper and lower edges, echoing the wide chevron bands that run along the top and bottom of the outer border. The palette stays consistent throughout, with the wavy multicolor stripes providing the only patterning against the otherwise plain cream fields.

Summit

An unbordered field, ivory throughout, covered edge to edge in an interlocking chevron lattice traced in fine tan outline, the zigzags shifting slightly in scale as they repeat across rows. No separate border frames the design; the pattern simply runs to the outer edges, giving the surface an all-over, continuous rhythm.

Tatami

A single warm brown ground is divided by narrow ivory outlines into an interlocking pattern of rectangular blocks, arranged in concentric bands that step inward toward a smaller cluster of panels at the center. There is no border in the traditional sense; the grid of lines simply organizes the entire field into a nested, brick-like composition, with the outer rectangles larger and the innermost ones compact and squared.

Plains

The field is left entirely open, an unbroken expanse of pale ivory with a faint horizontal striation running edge to edge and no border to frame it. A subtle sheen shifts across the surface where light catches the individual rows of pile, giving the plain ground a quiet, banded texture. The inset detail shows the closely aligned ridges up close, revealing occasional flecks of warmer tan within the otherwise uniform cream surface.

Sunset

An expansive ivory ground is left largely open, interrupted only by two vertical rows of tapering dashes in black descending from the upper corners. At the center, overlapping curved and rectilinear forms in dark brown, mid-brown, and gray suggest layered arches or hooded shapes, outlined in places with a fine black line that extends beyond the forms themselves. Near the lower edge, a cluster of horizontal bars in brown and black crosses a narrow vertical band, echoing the palette of the central motif.

WINDOW SAVONNERIE

The field is laid out as a grid of small compartments, each holding a single stylized floral or leaf motif rendered in muted gold, sage, and slate against an ivory ground; at the top and bottom the grid gives way to a wavy horizon-like band edged with small triangular teeth in cream, grey, and black. The wide border carries large sinuous blossoms and rosettes in grey, cream, and rust with touches of black scrollwork, framed by a slender mustard-brown outer guard stripe.

RUHLMANN 1930

A near-monochrome field in pale ivory, its surface animated only by subtle striations of tone left by the pile's natural sheen. Nested rectangular outlines, drawn in fine dark thread, step inward from the outer border toward the center, forming a concentric, almost architectural frame within frame. No other ornament interrupts the plain expanse of the ground.
