Pierre Olofsson (1921-1996) was a Swedish painter, printmaker and sculptor, and the most consistent of the concrete artists of his generation. Born in Paris and raised in Stockholm, he trained at Otte Sköld's painting school and at the Royal Institute of Art.
He belonged to the group known as the Men of 1947, alongside Lennart Rodhe, Lage Lindell and Uno Vallman, and alone among them he remained a purely concrete painter. His work follows from Paul Klee towards a geometry of rotating discs, ovals and spirals set before and behind one another so that flat colour reads as movement and depth. In keeping with the concrete artists' belief that art belonged in ordinary life, he also worked as an industrial colourist for Saab and for Husqvarna, where he designed the company's logotype and identity.
