Vintage Kilim Composition

Vintage Kilim Compostion. Kilim panels  in a Modernistic design. Natural Linen herringbone stitching with Button stitch around the edge.

Shaped as a doorway surround, the piece leaves the entire central field open, its two long uprights and arched lintel woven with a continuous band of urns and vases sprouting floral bouquets, roses, and leafy scrolls on a tan ground. A shield-form vase with a spray of pale blossoms marks the center of the top rail, and the whole composition is edged with a dark, near-black outer border. The palette runs to muted rose, sage green, dusty blue, and ochre against the warm tan ground.

The surface presents a plain, undyed straw-toned ground worked in a diagonal basketweave, the strands crossing at consistent angles to form a herringbone-like diagonal pattern across the whole field. No border, motif, or inscription interrupts the weave; the detail inset confirms the same interlacing pattern at closer range, showing individual strands of varying width and slight color variation from pale gold to deeper tan.

The field is left entirely open, given over to a plain diagonal basketweave that runs uniformly corner to corner in a pale straw tone. A magnified detail at lower right isolates the crossing strands, showing the regular over-under rhythm and the slight variation in width and sheen between individual straws. No border, motif, or inscription interrupts the surface.

The field is left entirely open, given over to a plain basket-weave pattern of pale straw-colored strands crossing at diagonal angles. A detail inset at lower right enlarges this interlacing, showing the flattened, ribbon-like strands passing over and under one another in a regular checkerboard rhythm. The surface tone is uniform throughout, a soft ivory-beige with subtle variation where the strands catch the light differently.

The surface presents a uniform herringbole plaiting pattern, its interlaced strands running in alternating diagonal courses across the entire field with no border or central motif to interrupt the rhythm. The tone is a warm, even straw color throughout, with subtle variation where the natural strands catch the light differently. A detail inset in the lower right isolates the weave structure, showing the crossing diagonals more closely and revealing the consistency of the plaiting across the surface.
