Collaborations

Washi Paper

  • Our washi is handmade Japanese paper, made to order, and each sheet carries its own name — Kumo, Umi, Nohara and Hana Mame among them. Washi is formed from long plant fibres rather than pulped wood, which is why it takes light the way it does: the sheet glows rather than sitting flat, and shows its fibres when lit from behind. Several are finished on both sides, for screens and dividers read from either face.

Needlepoint

A wide golden-yellow ground is left almost entirely open, its plain expanse broken only by a single abstracted figural motif rendered in flat planes of slate blue, charcoal, taupe, and pale grey. The figure is composed of angular, stacked geometric shapes suggesting a stylized head and cloaked torso, with a thin triangular pennant-like form projecting from the crown. A narrow band of small brown triangles runs along the lower edge, standing in for a border, while the rest of the field carries no repeating pattern or framing device.
