Swedish Inspired

Anne Marie Boberg was a Swedish textile artist whose designs are inherently Scandinavian. She has produced a wide variety of röllakan throughout the mid-20th century. Her designs are highly influenced by Scandinavian motifs, featuring softer colors paired with classical designs as well as chic geometric patterns. During her partnership with Axeco Svenska Company, she produced many flat weave röllakan that were handwoven. Boberg is also known for her publication on the art of macrame that came at a time of its international revival.

Initialed "GA"

The field is built from two vertical bands of small squares in pale yellow, ivory, and soft gray, set against a warm ochre ground, flanked by outer columns of longer rectangular blocks in muted taupe and gray tones. Narrow horizontal bars of gray interrupt the central checkered columns at regular intervals, and thin banded stripes mark the top and bottom edges before giving way to a wide fringe. The initials noted appear woven into the lower right corner within the bottom border's checkered band.

Swedish Flat Weave

An open golden field, left largely plain but for a scattering of small floral rosettes in dusty rose and blue arranged around the perimeter, small cross motifs, and paired bracket-form devices near each side. The wide border is built in bands: an ivory ground with sprigs of pink flowers on green stems alternating with a rust-and-cream zigzag stripe and a run of small hooked motifs, framed by narrow rust and mustard guard stripes.
