Japanese Wallcovering

  • Our Japanese wall coverings are woven to order in cedar and bamboo, in the ajiro plaiting traditions, where thin strips are laid over and under one another to build a lattice — tortoiseshell, checkerboard and diagonal patterns among them. Some of the bamboo is finished by fire, the surface darkened before weaving, which gives a depth of colour no stain reproduces. These are surfaces meant to be seen close to, and the same material serves for ceilings and screens as well as walls.
