Danish Flat Weave

'Lynild' literally translates to 'lightning'. Long recognized as a notable figure in the realm of applied arts & design in mid-twentieth century Denmark, Vibeke Klint's work has been exhibited in numerous prominent museums such as the Danish Museum of Art & Design, in Copenhagen, Denmark' and National Museum of Women in the Arts, in Washington, DC.

Mat

A close, unpatterned surface of tightly interlaced strands in mingled tones of tan, honey, and dark brown, the plain basket-like weave left entirely open with no field motif or border. A circular inset at lower right magnifies a small section of the crossing strands, highlighting the twist and interlock of the construction rather than any decorative design.

Mat

A plain, undyed ground in a soft tan-and-honey tone, left entirely open with no border or field motif, the surface reading as a uniform basket-like lattice of thick, twisted strands. A circular inset at lower right magnifies the weave, revealing the individual plied strands crossing at regular intervals and the slight variation in their color from pale cream to warm gold.

Mat

A plain, undecorated ground of thick, twisted strands worked in a simple over-under basketweave, entirely open with no border or field motifs. The tones run through natural tans and browns, with the twisted plies catching light unevenly to give a subtle striping across the surface. An inset detail circle enlarges a corner of the weave to show the interlacing more closely.

The field shows an all-over basketweave pattern in a uniform pale straw tone, with no border or field distinct from ground. A circular inset at lower right magnifies the plied strands, revealing the crossing rhythm of the weave more closely than the main image allows.

The field is left entirely open, given over to a dense basketweave of thick, twisted cords in mingled tones of tobacco brown and pale straw. Uniform braided rows run edge to edge with no border or central motif, the surface reading as a continuous plaited texture rather than a patterned composition. Clusters of loose, unbraided fringe finish the top and bottom edges, and a circular inset at lower right offers a magnified view of the interlacing.

The surface presents an open basketweave grid, thick tan strands crossing over slender dark brown threads at regular intervals. A close-up inset in the lower right isolates this structure, showing the twisted texture of the pale strands against the taut lines binding them. Along the top and bottom edges, loose tufts of the same brown thread hang free, left untrimmed rather than finished into a border.
