Swedish Flat Weave

Initialed: IS

The tan ground is divided into three horizontal registers, each centered on an elongated ivory medallion with a stepped outline and a row of short dark bars running through its middle. Between the medallions sit small clustered blossoms in mustard, grey, and cream, flanked by diamond-shaped accents in orange and pale green at either edge. A narrow striped guard band in dark brown and cream frames the composition along all four sides.

Swedish Rya

An ivory ground carries an overall lattice of interlocking ogival medallions outlined in slate gray, each enclosing a striped roundel alternately filled in mustard yellow, dusty rose, and slate blue. Small gray diamond accents fill the negative spaces where the lattice lines cross, and there is no separate border, the pattern running to the edge of the field. The palette stays consistent across the five columns and six rows of repeats, with the fringe left plain at top and bottom.

Swedish Flat Weave

A geometric grid of offset rectangular blocks in pale yellow, celadon green, lavender, and ivory fills the field, each block linked by thin gray connecting lines that read as a stepped brickwork pattern. The border is a plain narrow band in muted gray-green, left free of ornament, framing the field's modular composition. Colors throughout are soft and desaturated, with the ivory blocks showing a faint striped texture that sets them apart from the flatter tones surrounding them.

Zaiane

A long narrow runner alternates plain charcoal-grey bands with horizontal registers of dense geometric patterning in rust red, ivory, and mustard. The patterned bands carry repeating diamond and stepped-hook lattices, while the solid grey stripes are broken only by a single vertical column of small diamond ticks running down their center. Fringed ends left plain, and the field's rhythm of stripe-then-motif is consistent along the full length.

Berber

A high-pile field in undyed ivory-cream carries a faint diamond lattice traced in thin gray-brown lines running the length of the piece. The border is left essentially unmarked, merging into the plush ground with no distinct framing device, and loose fringe finishes both short ends.

Azilal

A long narrow runner with an ivory ground crossed by horizontal bands of brown motifs: rows of small stick figures, zigzag lines, dashed and dotted patterns, and short vertical marks stacked in registers along the field's length. There is no separate border, the banded motifs running edge to edge, and loose warp fringe is visible at both ends.

Boujad

A long narrow runner composed of alternating bands of undyed ivory ground and broad dark brown stripes, interrupted at intervals by three narrower decorative bands worked in a small-scale zigzag and diamond pattern in rust, ochre, and cream. The ends finish in loosely knotted warp fringe, and the striping is arranged with slight irregularity in width rather than strict repetition.

Chinese

A steel-blue field carries an all-over lattice of coral-toned scrolling vines connecting rosettes rendered in ivory and salmon, the pattern repeating evenly across the ground without a central medallion. A cream border of diamond and star-shaped lozenges in coral, black, and blue frames the field, flanked by narrow guard stripes of small angular motifs in the same palette. The composition is symmetrical along both axes, with the vine scrolls meeting neatly at the field's edges.
